| The Rotary Club of Pleasanton will be making tremendous
impact on the local community this year, generously donating both
time and money to enhance the creek running through Downtown Pleasanton.
Working with the City of Pleasanton, The Rotary Club of Pleasanton
has begun the process of the Arroyo Del Valle at Main Street Trail
Improvement Project. In honor of the Centennial of Rotary International,
the club decided to design and execute a project consistent with
the priorities of the City of Pleasanton to enhance access, view
and the educational values of the arroyo.
President Janet Burton and Past President, Kevin Buck identified
a project to make significant visual and functional improvements
to a portion of the Arroyo that flows through the center of town.
Meeting with Rob Wilson, Director of Public Works and Jim Wolfe,
Director of Parks and Community Services a plan was created to install
lighting, improve accessibility to the trail system, improve safety
and enhance the beauty of this city landmark. The City Landscape
Architect, Michael Fulford will be drawing up the plans for new
native riparian plantings, removal of non-native and invasive vegetation
and preservation and enhancement of existing views from the bridge.
The Rotarians will provide sweat-equity to remove the non-native
plants and debris.
A seating area is planned with two benches to be built and installed
by Rotarians where there will be a plaque with the Rotary Wheel.
Once permits are obtained, construction will begin the summer of
2004 with completion and dedication in December 2004.
Working together to make a difference The Rotary Club of Pleasanton
and the City of Pleasanton will enhance its downtown creek into
a treasured part of Downtown.
