Over $40,000 To Pleasanton Scholars

At its July 26th meeting, The Rotary Club of Pleasanton handed out $44.800 college scholarships to ten recently graduated high school students and six young people who are already in college.

Nancy Harrington, who heads the scholarship committee, made opening comments noting that since 2006, The Rotary Club of Pleasanton has given out scholarships totaling $387,600.  She then introduced members of the committee - Larry Annis, Steve Nerad, Heidi Hall, and Dick Stafford - who presented the checks to the students.

Winners entering their first year of undergraduate work are Cameron Bowers, Jeanette Cardenas, Michelle Dias, Colin FitzMaurice, Lauren Inthavong, Araceli Martinez, Wasone McIntyre, Bradley Russo, Fatima Salazar, and Nicole Sanchez-Frias.

Awardees from the already in college group were Azar Dixit, Megan Do, Cheyenne Harper, Lauren Liao, Victor Mendez, and Mahi Nagar.

Many of the students were already off to school and could not attend the presentation but Nancy assured all that the checks are "in the mail."

Scholarship funds are generated by two Rotary events each year the Spirit Run, which moves to a date around Halloween in 2019, and the annual Texas Hold-'em Poker Tournament held at the Vets Hall each spring.
